Ukifune

Ukifune; means drifting boat in Japanese. I selected this name on a whim. It's a reference to a character in the Tale of Genji as well as one of my favorite songs by Japanese rock band GO!GO!7188. I do feel the constant motion of life, trying to stay afloat and keep moving. I do sometimes feel like a vessel for my mind, and seeing new places/traveling is my purpose. I might also have some tragic tales like the princess in the story...

It's my third year at university. Yawwwnnn... Trying to readjust to America, this seemingly static and unchanging place I am constantly running away from. Trying to keep my languages in practice. Trying to stay afloat!

I started this blog when I was researching Japan and looking into working as a hostess. I subsequently used this blog to record my experience as a night worker in Tokyo. I enjoyed vox so much that I stuck around since then to write about my study abroad experience in Paris and more.

Beware of boring writing, too much detail, self-obsession, drug use, effeminate Japanese men, vampirism, ignorance, Japanophilia, and other things. I will avoid political matters in this blog for the most part, but I am a Libertarian Socialist (or Anarchist); Noam Chomsky's political views resemble most of mine. I was raised Muslim but consider myself agnostic today. I study French and Japanese, but I was raised bilingual in Arabic and English, my parents being Iraqi immigrants to the United States.

I balance two identities, the more-acceptable-in-society ukifune is a third year honors student at the University of Washington... majoring in International Studies and Comparative Literature... aspiring writer... diplomat... journalist... linguist... spy...

The less-family-friendly ukifune likes to travel internationally on her university/government's tab, take advantage of rich men, and do a lot of drugs. Which will prevail?!
